Bald Butte Lavender Farm

Growing Lavender

Gardeners are most accustomed to growing annual flower and vegetable crops which require regular watering and fertilization along with various soil amendments. Lavender, however, is a low maintenance perennial shrub which grows best by addressing these five basic requirements:

  • 8-10 hours of full sun per day
  • Good air circulation
  • Well-drained soil
  • Soil pH close to neutral between 6.5 (slightly acidic) and 7.5 (slightly alkaline)
  • Low to moderately fertile soil
